Fireside Chat w Cochrane's Best Realtor - Kent Bamber

Hometown?

Saskatoon, SK.

Education?

Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing); U of S.

What brought you to Calgary?

My first career out of University was with Shaw Cable. Starting as the Saskatchewan Sales Coordinator, followed by the position of Sales Director for that province and eventually leading to being the National Director of Sales for the company. With the last position being headquartered in Calgary, I packed my bags. The year was 2000.

What do you remember most about coming West from the Prairies?

The mountains...and watching the Calgary Flames play live. What we lack in lakes (and Cups), we gain in mountains ❤️. The hustle & bustle of Calgary's downtown core was (and still is) mesmerizing.

When did you move to Cochrane?

2008. Having originally owned in Monterra, we eventually moved inward to Sunset and currently reside in Heritage Hills. We love everything about our town.

Why Real Estate?

My Dad was a Realtor/Brokerage Owner in Saskatoon for 32 years. I grew up staring at the backs of gold-coloured velour driver's seats in 1970s Lincoln Town Cars; all the while admiring his charisma and salesmanship.

What are 3 things you've learned about the Real Estate business in your 23 years as a RE/MAX Realtor?

1.  Appreciate loyalty and repeat business. It's a rarity and it speaks volumes of all parties involved.

2. Just as a potential Client is interviewing you, so too should you be interviewing the Client. Respect & trust are key. A bad fit is a bad fit.

3. When you take on a Client, be prepared to go to battle for that Family...every single time. The results will speak for themselves.

What continues to drive you in the business?

Delivering stellar results for my valued Clientele. I treat every dollar as if it were my own. 80% of my current sales volume comes directly from my Customer base - proof positive that in an industry where you're only as good as your last sale, performance creates longevity.

What's the toughest part about your job?

Despite what the Home and Garden channel may lead you to believe, being a Realtor is not easy.

To be successful in this business you must be an effective marketer, salesperson, negotiator, coordinator, mediator, motivator, optimist, magician, handyperson, adviser, counsellor, interior decorator...on call.

In life, what is the most important thing to you?

Family; hands down. Being the best Dad/Partner/Person I can be. Living with integrity, while working at finding purpose in life.

When you are not working, what do you LOVE to do?

Be outside.

What might surprise people about you?

Having enjoyed nearly 40 years of stellar sales success, I am a natural introvert. I have a super soft spot for all animals (and plenty of other things as well). My life would not be complete without my dogs in it.

Closing piece of advice?

If you're fortunate enough to have seen bottom, the climb back up is a beautiful thing. Be a good person. Keep your eyes (and heart) open. Life is short; enjoy the ride. Never not be grateful.
